
Kattil Mekkathil Devi temple is popularly known as Kattil Mekkathil temple, located at Ponmana, near Chavara, in Kollam district, Kerala, it is in a unique place, where the lake meets the sea. This temple is located on an island created by the lake and the sea and look like a beautiful & pleasant place. The shrine is dedicated to the goddess Bhadrakali amma – the goddess mother venerated here is ugra murti. - This great Temple is visited daily by a lot of devotees for holy darshan of Goddess and it is must-visit during the Shiva ratri Mahotsavam festival, Vernacular Mahotsav & Pongala .Like other temples, it is also closes in afternoon session and then opens again for darshan.

Thousands of Devotees from all over the country come to the tree to attach the sacred bells given to them by the temple. The devotees go around the tree 7 times before attaching the bell to the tree. In the 7th round, they make a wish and it will be Fulfilled. The tree is covered with such bells attached by the devotees. A small gust of wind from the sea is enough to send a thousand chimes among the tens of thousands of bells attached to a huge banyan tree in the enclosure of a temple here in Ponmana.
- The Popular form of Devi is Bhadrakali worshipped in Kerala as Sri Bhadrakali amma and Kariam Kali Murti Devi. In Kerala, the devi is seen as the auspicious and fortunate form of Maha Kali who protects the good.
- The goddess is represented with three eyes and eighteen hands and also She carries several weapons, flames flowing from her head and a small defense scrolling from her mouth. Her worship is also associated with Tantric tradition of “Matrikas” as well as the tradition of the ten Mahavidyas and falls under the broader umbrella of Shaktism, according to the traditions of Kerala.
