The Purusha is defined in verses 2-5 of the Sukta. He is described as a being who universally permeates all that is conscious and unconscious. He is poetically described as a being with a thousand heads, eyes and legs, enveloping not only the earth, but the entire universe on all sides and transcending it by ten fingers in length – or transcendent in 10 dimensions. All manifestations, past, present and future, are considered to be the Purusha alone. He is also claimed to transcend his creation. The immanence of the manifesting Purusha and yet its transcendence from it is similar to the point of view of panentheists. Finally, his glory is considered even greater than the representation in this Sukta.
